…Let Them Do…

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. My sixth grade students have polished their scripts and practiced their lines. They are ready to video their newscasts to share land use conflict in the Amazon rain forest from the perspective of one of several competing groups that live there. This is their final piece part of the formal assessment for the unit.

In the past, we have taken traditional paper/pencil tests, written essays, and created Google slides and power point presentations. I have also done the video taping of these newscasts. But this year they are producing the entire newscasts and I am AMAZED! The preliminary work has shown me how far ahead of the game these kids are. They are teaching me a thing or two about creating.

I can hardly wait to see the finished products!

As a teacher of sixth graders, ma special place is my classroom; my home-away-from-home. My first home I share with my husband, our dog Quincy, two cats, and my tortoise friend, Misha. I also have been blessed with a horse named Arjay. We have three adult children and five grandchildren, the joy of our lives. Life is good. I am an equestrian, a writer, a reader, a gardener, and I repurpose furniture.
